36x36 canvas - "Three Muses"

$2,600.00

This dreamy and ethereal painting is loaded with texture and depth. The original Three Muses are a group of Goddesses from ancient Greek tradition who embody the fundamental aspects of creative art: Melete (meditation/practice), Mneme (memory), and Aoede (song). This painting began with homage to Jeff Buckley, an other-worldly musician and astral visitor. The muses frolic near the river, receiving flower gifts from heaven. There is a never-ending discovery within Lofton’s work, as images and details seem to emerge as years pass. Collectors have noted new perceptions as they live with the powerful expressions of this visionary artist.

Lofton's deep-dive expressions are visceral, spirited explosions of texture, color, and symbolism.

Erin Lofton (b. 1964) is a visionary American artist in a unique genre. Her sensual expressionistic paintings are interpretations and explorations of beauty and chaos, dreams and visions.  The work she produces are a deep dive into themes of Nature, Romantic Mysticism, and Mythology.

Lofton was born and raised in the Hyde Park Historic District of Chicago. She studied fashion design, painting, and sculpture in the 1980s at Otis Art Institute and Parsons School of Design and Arizona State University. After college, she spent a decade traveling on a solo journey and living in magical destinations like Mount Shasta, Maui, Sedona, Vermont, and high in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Her art was deeply transformed by these experiences.

Artist Statement

I explore the Divine nature of beauty and chaos in life experience and set out to express these observations in my artwork. My paintings honor nature and the old ways with most of the images being a reflection of my own contemplation of the cycle of Life, Death and Rebirth.
